More than just games and entertainment

While gamers use VR headsets to explore the virtual world, companies can harness augmented reality and artificial intelligence to create better processes and offers tailored to their customers’ needs. This is no longer a game – the winners of tomorrow will be companies that can surprise and inspire their customers.

Swisscom is currently expanding its experience with intelligent systems. In partnership with the Federal Institute of Technology Lausanne and other universities, we are adopting the latest algorithms and incorporating them in our core processes.

Smart Assistance is one such project implemented by Swisscom.

What do these terms really mean?

Virtual Reality

An enclosed headset is worn that replaces the real world with a simulated one. This changes the way in which we access content, with passive observation being replaced by active participation. The first devices are now available.

Augmented reality

The environment is supplemented by information and digital data is transferred to the real world. Examples such as navigation systems that project route information onto the windscreen and Pokémon Go are just the beginning.

Artificial intelligence

Thanks to artificial intelligence, a computer can complete tasks requiring human intelligence. This then makes it possible to make good use of growing mountains of data.

Experts predict that more and more products and services will be based on data. As a result, companies will better understand the needs of their customers. And if a problem arises, artificial intelligence will enable customer support services to offer solutions in real time by using background processes to analyse the problem description, customer information and the solutions employed for other similar incidents.
