Thymio goes to the mountains – and to Altdorf

With Thymio, children learn how computers and robots work. Through play, schoolchildren develop the skills needed to navigate their way in the digital world and to actively manage it. Five school classes comprising 100 pupils from five cantons are taking part in the pilot project called “Thymio goes to the mountains”. A visit to the 5th grade at the Hagen primary school in Altdorf shows how well the children concentrate on the work and how much fun it is when the robot really does what it was designed to do.

Computational thinking is a method of formulating problems and their solutions in such a way that both humans and machines can understand and execute them. This makes it a valuable methodology that can be applied to different types of challenges.

Internet for schools

Since 2002, Swisscom has offered all schools in Switzerland free Internet access and numerous services. At the end of 2019, almost 5,000 schools were taking advantage of this offer. Throughout Switzerland, over one million schoolchildren use Swisscom Internet connections every day. Schulen ans Internet (German)
